Virtually no other city has better-preserved historic buildings than Bern, Switzerland's capital. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage and its arcades (known as 'Lauben') make up Europe's longest weather-protected shopping promenade. The city's other highlights include Bern Minster, the Bear Park, the Zytglogge clock tower, the Rose Garden, the Marzili swimming pool, the Paul Klee Art Museum, the Child Eater Fountain, Mount Gurten (Bern's 'own' mountain) and the Federal Parliament. In the environs of Bern, the towns of Thun and Solothurn, the Emmental valley and the Bernese Oberland are destinations for experience-packed excursions.
