This primarily depends on your travel route and the number of people accompanying you. We recommend using public transport. If you book your tickets early, you can take advantage of many special offers.
Available tickets and passes
One country, one ticket – the Swiss Travel Pass unites 250 transport companies in a single ticket. With the Swiss Travel Pass (Flex), you can explore all of Switzerland by train, bus and boat over 3, 4, 8 or 15 days. This covers the popular panoramic routes (such as the Glacier Express), as well as public transport in 90 cities. You will also benefit from free admission to over 500 museums across the country, as well as an up to 50% discount on mountain excursions.
For longer stays, we recommend the Swiss Half Fare Card. This allows you to travel by train, bus and boat, as well as on most mountain railways, for half price for a whole month.
And this offer for all of Switzerland is available for specific regions too: if you’re holidaying in a specific holiday region, the regional passes are well worthwhile. These allow free travel by train, bus and boat and grant discounts on mountain excursions in the defined area of application.
For shorter distances, you can also purchase normal point-to-point tickets (e.g. Zurich–Berne) or day tickets. This last option is the ideal choice for day trips by train, bus and boat as well as public transport in most Swiss cities. 1st and 2nd class day tickets are available.
And for those of you who like a bargain: point-to-point tickets and day tickets are also available at a great price. The supersaver tickets and saver day passes are available for both the 1st and 2nd class. They are only valid for the selected travel date and the selected public transport connection (train connection). Offer subject to availability. You benefit from an up to 70% discount on the normal and reduced* price (*e.g. with the Swiss Half Fare Card). Special offer provisions apply. Supersaver tickets generally cannot be exchanged or refunded.
