What regulations are there on importing goods or animals?

When you enter Switzerland, no duty is charged on personal effects, travel provisions and the fuel in your vehicle's tank. On other goods you bring with you, value added tax is levied (on goods valued at CHF 300 or more) and in some cases, customs duty is also payable (on foods, tobacco, alcohol and fuel). Please note that certain goods may not be imported. Mandatory regulations apply to the following items: plants, cash, narcotics, counterfeit items, cultural artefacts, medicines, plants, radar detectors, animals, animal products and weapons.
