How do refunds of value added tax (VAT) work?

To obtain a refund of value added tax, the goods must have a minimum value of CHF 300 per purchase, including VAT. Most sales staff are well informed about VAT refunds. When you cross the border, it is a mandatory requirement that you obtain a confirmation (stamp) that the goods are being exported.
