Where do celebrations take place on Swiss national day (1 August)?

1 August is a statutory public holiday in Switzerland. In many communes, the traditional celebrations begin in the afternoon with the singing of the national anthem, political speeches and bell-ringing. In rural areas, typical costumes are worn on 1 August. Large bonfires are lit in Alpine regions. There are also fireworks displays in larger cities and holiday resorts.
